FAQs
Amba Haldi (Curcuma amada) and regular Haldi (Curcuma longa) are two completely different plants from the same family. Regular Haldi is hot in potency, stains deeply yellow and is pungent. Amba Haldi is cooling in nature, has a distinct raw mango fragrance, stains significantly less and is traditionally used for skin, digestion and inflammation without aggravating Pitta dosha — making it far gentler and more versatile.
Yes — and this is one of Amba Haldi's most traditional uses. Mix ½ tsp with raw milk or rose water into a smooth paste, apply evenly on face and neck, leave for 20–30 minutes and rinse with cool water.
No — these are two different herbs that are often confused. Kasturi Haldi is Curcuma aromatica, while Amba Haldi is Curcuma amada. Both are used in skincare and both stain less than regular turmeric, but they have different fragrances, tastes and therapeutic properties. Amba Haldi has a distinct raw mango aroma and stronger digestive benefits, while Kasturi Haldi has a more floral, camphor-like scent.
While Amba Haldi is a natural herb with a long history of traditional use, we always recommend consulting your Ayurvedic physician or gynaecologist before consuming any herb during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Topical use as a face pack in small quantities is generally considered safe.
For internal use (consuming daily), most users notice a visible difference in skin tone, gut comfort and energy levels within 3–4 weeks of consistent use. For topical use as a face pack, initial glow is noticeable after the very first application, with significant reduction in dark spots and pigmentation visible within 2–3 weeks of regular use.
Absolutely. Amba Haldi has been used in Indian and South Asian cuisine for centuries — especially in Odia, Bengali and coastal cuisines — where it is added to pickles, fish curries, chutneys and soups for its distinctive mango-like flavour and aroma. It can be used as a subtle substitute for regular turmeric in any recipe where you want less colour and a slightly tangy note.
The classical Ayurvedic recommended dosage is ½ to 1 tsp (1–3 grams) daily, best taken after meals with warm milk, water or honey. It is safe for long-term daily use as a food supplement. However, for therapeutic use targeting a specific health condition, always consult a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner for personalised guidance.
